The owner and president of the Bot Construction Group is Roy M. Bot, P. Eng. With 40 + years of experience in the heavy civil construction industry, Roy is a committed leader who provides direction and oversight for the company’s business initiatives, financial and administrative operations, and equipment resource management to support the efficient completion of various projects, including the construction of transportation infrastructure. Roy is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario and has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from McMaster University.

Steve R. Bot, P.Eng., is a Bot Construction Group principal and owner. In addition to overseeing construction operations management throughout the Bot organization, he leads the company’s contractual and strategic partnering strategies. With 40 years of expertise and $4 billion in successfully completed transportation infrastructure projects and site development works, he has vast, hands-on experience in all phases of the planning and delivery of heavy civil construction services, from pursuit to commissioning. He is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario and has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) Degree from Carleton University.

Nancy Mercanti is a Bot Construction Group principal and owner. She works closely with the company’s 100+ employees and is actively involved in the corporate structure. Her 38 years of expertise have allowed her to adapt to several changes in corporate administration, operational processes, payroll, and interpersonal dynamics related to the road and bridge building industry. She developed as a leader in human resources, ensuring fairness and best practices through efficient implementation and adherence to regulatory requirements for benefits, payroll, and human resources. In addition, she serves as president of the Silvio Bot Charitable Foundation and oversees business philanthropy. Nancy has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Laurentian University and a certificate in executive leadership from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Ian Marshall, LLB, supports the company’s operations and business with pragmatic, business-focused legal advice. He has 35 years of a wide range of senior management expertise in both the public and private sectors, including operational and transactional positions in the delivery of infrastructure through public-private partnerships. He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School with an LLB and the University of Toronto with a BA in Economics and Environmental Systems. Ian is a member of the ORBA/Metrolinx Joint Transit Contractors Council as well as the Ontario Road Builders’ Association (ORBA) Alternative Delivery Committee.

Scott worked for several years in public accounting before joining the company in 2004. His experience includes financial management and reporting, project reporting, risk management, taxation, and P3 financing. Scott has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business, York University, and has a professional designation as a Chartered Accountant, being a member of CPA Canada.

The company’s design-build and alternative financing project pursuits are led and managed by Troy Linton, P. Eng. He also serves in senior management capacities on joint venture teams that plan and oversee the execution of ongoing works. His 25 year background in infrastructure project management encompasses federal, provincial, and municipal infrastructure works as well as private land development. He has held project manager positions for significant highway expansion projects that were completed under both traditional contract models and P3 models. Troy is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario and has a BA Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Ottawa.

With 35 years of experience building transportation infrastructure, Jorge Cadete is a senior leader. In his capacity as Director of Construction Operations, Jorge leads the way in pursuing and completing significant highway expansions and railway site works. He also offers project teams executing traditional bid-build contracts in southern Ontario strategic management support. He is a certified Gold Seal Project Manager by the Canadian Construction Association and has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Physics) from McMaster University.

Mike Beatty, who has over 35 years of experience in the development and implementation of systematic management and continuous improvement frameworks for transportation infrastructure construction operations, is in charge of the company’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Program. He has managed operations on more than 75 provincial and municipal projects in both the public and private sectors. He has also led operations as Quality Manager and Quality Director on P3 highway construction and light rail transit projects. Mike is a Certified ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor and holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Cambrian College.

Dan Campanelli, who has 40 years of vast industry knowledge is responsible for managing the heavy equipment resource allocation to support the company’s construction operations throughout the province in addition to providing leadership in respect of the inventory and maintenance of the company’s fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. Additionally, he oversees the procurement, storage, and logistics of tool and material delivery to job sites. Dan has expertise in supply chain and equipment management and is a licensed mechanic.

Guy Lafond is responsible for the company’s estimating functions. He leads the estimating team and oversees project evaluation and bid preparation. Guy has over 15 years of estimating experience in the heavy civil and commercial construction sectors. He holds an A.Sc.T. from Fanshaw College and is a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians.

Lawrence Opoku, CPA, CGA, is the Bot group of companies Controller overseeing the accounting team who support him in managing the accounting functions. He has over 15 years accounting and management experience across diverse industries. He obtained his Certified General Accountant designation in 2008. Lawrence is highly ambitious and when not working, he enjoys family time and being active.

In addition to serving as a Senior Project Manager on significant provincial highway and arterial road expansions, rails structures, and freeway to freeway interchange projects throughout the GTA, Mark DiCarlo is a project lead and construction manager with over 25 years of experience in the construction of transportation infrastructure. His most recent undertakings include the construction of a cast-in-place balanced cantilever bridge utilizing the form traveler method and significant extensions along the Queen Elizabeth Way and Highway 403 in Halton/Peel. As a member of the management team, Mark supports operational planning across the entire organization by sharing his knowledge of construction planning and his insight into innovation. With a B.A. SC in Civil Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Mark is a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario and a Gold Seal Certified Project Manager from the Canadian Construction Association.

As the Senior Project Manager on design-build and conventional 400-series highway expansions, bridge projects, and arterial road works throughout the GTA, and with over 30 years of experience in heavy civil and transportation infrastructure construction, Michael McMurray is an accomplished Project Manager. His most recent initiatives include being a General Superintendent on the Hurontario Light Rail Transit project, widening of Highway 410, and the construction of the Highway 400/4th Line overpass. As a member of the management team, Michael supports constructability, schedule, and bid reviews with his extensive knowledge and expertise. Michael is a Gold Seal Certified Project Manager by the Canadian Construction Association and has a Construction Engineering Technician Diploma from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology.

Senior Project Manager
Tom Collie is a Senior Project Manager with over 21 years of experience on provincial highway and bridge construction projects, in Central, SouthWest, NorthEast and NorthWest Regions. As construction manager he is responsible for project planning, resourcing and delivery for operations in the northern region. His recent work accomplishments include leading major highway expansion projects on Highways 11, 69 and 17, and leading construction operations for the Nipigon River Bridge, Ontario’s first cable-stayed structure. As a member of the management team, Tom is recognized for his collaborative, solution-oriented approach and for brining innovations in construction methodology and environmental impact mitigation. Tom holds a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology and is a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.

George Dimitropoulos directs the company’s health and safety program. He provides project teams with guidance and assistance in organizing and carrying out our operations in a safe manner. With over 17 years of progressive excellence in leading quality, safety, health, and project management operations, safety program deployment, and safety process re-engineering under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001, and IHSA COR Certification, this innovative and successful leader is results-driven. George is a certified safety trainer who also possesses the Canadian Construction Association Safety Gold Seal Certification (GSC), the University of New Brunswick Occupational Health & Safety Certificate, the Construction Health & Safety Officer Certificate, CHSO, and the IHSA COR Auditor certification.

Paul McCullough oversees survey operations to support quantity measurements and quality standards verification through design and construction. He also oversees equipment grade control functions and survey operations across the entire organization. Paul manages the incorporation of cutting-edge survey and modeling technologies for construction operations. He has over 22 years of experience in all facets of work for transportation infrastructure projects and is an expert in conventional and aerial survey technology as well as related software applications. He has a Transport Canada Pilot Certificate (RPAS, VLOS – Advanced Drone Operations) and a Civil Technology Diploma from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology.

The creation and implementation of the Quality and Environmental Management Plans for construction operations are overseen by John Hipwell, Manager, Quality Control. John is a technical standards expert with 25 years of experience in aggregate and pre-cast materials manufacturing, constructing transportation infrastructure, and leading our project teams across Ontario to meet quality and environmental protection objectives. He is an ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor, holds a BA in Geography and International Relations from Mount Allison University, and Mohawk College Civil Engineering Program.

Sharon Pogany directs the company’s cash flow planning, forecasting, and related financial analysis in her role as Manager, Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis. She has more than 20 years of experience in corporate finance and management accounting roles in the construction industry, retail, as well as in the software development and services industries. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and has a Masters in Management and Professional Accounting from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University.
