Health & Safety Co-ordinator
Key Responsibilities:
  • Observe day to day activities for compliance with company Health & Safety Program (HSP) and Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Review requirements of the HSP with company and subcontractor supervisors; communicate with supervisors and workers as necessary to address potential concerns
  • Participate in the development and on-going review of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs
  • Weekly, meet with the Project Team to review JHAs and update as needed
  • Collect and review pre-work permits and submissions
  • Conduct New Worker Safety Orientation
  • Confirm pre-work training requirements; deliver/arrange for worker training
  • Oversee Daily Safe Start Review requirements of the HSP
  • Weekly, conduct documented Site Inspections and collect and review records of supervisors’ inspections; follow up on deficiencies
  • Weekly, coordinate Tool Box Talks
  • Conduct spot audits of pre-work inspections
  • Report and record accidents and near-miss events; assist with investigations and oversee implementation of corrective actions
  • Establish, maintain and Co-Chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee; lead/participate in monthly meetings, prepare minutes and follow up on issues through to resolution
  • Maintain jobsite inventory of specialized PPE
  • Inspect and maintain First Aid Stations
  • Assist with the implementation of Return to Work plans
  • As due, collect, review and maintain safety records in hardcopy and electronic format
  • Prepare monthly jobsite safety report
  • Assist with the collection/processing of jobsite records, as needed
  • Other duties as may be assigned to support the Project Team
  • Minimum 3 years in construction industry
  • Knowledge of OHSA and Regulations
  • Knowledge of safety risks of highway construction
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma
  • Construction Health & Safety Representative, Parts 1, 2 & 3 (IHSA)
  • Basics of Supervision (IHSA)
  • OH&S Management Certificate Program Diploma or enrollment, an asset
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence
  • Knowledge/experience with the following an asset:
    • Working at heights training standard
    • Hoisting and rigging
    • Traffic Book 7
    • Surface Miner Common Core program
  • An outgoing, enthusiastic team player
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficient in workplace software applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
